Course Overview
This course provides a comprehensive yet accessible introduction to the world's major wisdom traditions. You'll learn about Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Taoism, Confucianism, and other traditions. We explore their origins, core teachings, practices, and how they address universal human questions about meaning, purpose, and transcendence.
By the end of this course, you'll understand the major traditions deeply enough to recognize common themes, appreciate their unique contributions, and continue deeper study in any tradition that calls to you.
Weekly Curriculum
Week 1: Why Wisdom Matters
Introduction to the course. Understanding what wisdom traditions are, why they matter, and the Universal Resonance Model.
Topics: Spirituality vs. religion, comparative study, common themes across traditions
Week 2: Eastern Traditions I - Buddhism & Hinduism
Explore Buddhism and Hinduism. Their histories, core concepts (karma, dharma, enlightenment), and major schools.
Topics: Buddha's teachings, Buddhist schools, Hindu philosophy, yoga traditions, Vedantic wisdom
Week 3: Eastern Traditions II - Taoism, Confucianism & East Asian Spirituality
Chinese and Japanese wisdom traditions. Taoism, Confucianism, Zen Buddhism, and their integrated approach to life.
Topics: Tao Te Ching, harmony with nature, ancestral reverence, Zen practice
Week 4: Western Traditions I - Judaism & Christianity
Abrahamic faith traditions. Jewish wisdom, Torah, Kabbalah, Christianity's spiritual heritage and contemplative traditions.
Topics: Mysticism, monastic traditions, prayer practices, spiritual transformation
Week 5: Western Traditions II - Islam & Sufism
Islamic spirituality and the mystical dimension of Islam through Sufism. Poetry, devotion, and direct experience of the Divine.
Topics: Quranic wisdom, Sufi orders, ecstatic devotion, spiritual transformation through love
Week 6: Integration & Next Steps
Bringing it all together. Common themes, universal spiritual truths, and how to deepen your study and practice.
Topics: Interfaith understanding, personal spiritual practice, recommended next steps
